Only one in five mothers of overweight children recognize the problem, according to a study from Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati, Ohio. The lower the mother’s educational level, the greater the proportion of obese offspring, reports the study senior author, Rob K. Siner, M.D., M.P.H.

The study incorporated 628 mothers of two- to five-year-olds in Alabama, representing the full economic spectrum. Neither race, income, nor mother’s age affected children’s obesity rates, said Dr (other than income as a result of educational level).

Although the study report issued by Children’s Hospital mentions the need to “increase parental awareness about preventing obesity” and to “help parents … encourage healthy, lifelong diet and exercise habits in children,” it doesn’t discuss possible causes of unrecognized obesity. Previous pediatric and psychological studies, however, have:

* Numerous studies have shown that chubby mothers raise chubby children.
* In some societal sectors it is still felt that “a fat and healthy baby” is desirable and that “fat children are happy children.” These ideas are more likely to prevail among less-educated mothers who have limited access to current news and new findings, and who are therefore likely to accept the ideas of prior generations.
* Finally, health professionals shouldn’t overlook the psychological power of a mother’s love. Moms just don’t see their children as homely, ungifted, ill-behaved, or overweight.

Although many people suffer from obesity, very few people actually realize exactly what obesity is. In most people’s opinions, obesity is simply a situation in which the body weighs more than is normal. This is too simplistic a view of the condition. Obesity is a condition where dangerous levels of weight and body fat have been reached, and the condition can cause a range of illnesses.

How does obesity develop?

Obesity is caused by far more than simple eating or exercise habits. All sorts of different things can cause obesity. In addition to physical factors, obesity is also caused by genetics, social factors and environmental factors. These issues work together to cause obesity.

Social Factors

Many habits are developed in two stages in a person’s lifetime — early childhood and the teenage years. Eating habits are developed at those times too. This is a correct time for a person to develop healthy eating habits. Parents have a great deal of influence in this respect. Parents should make healthy eating a pleasurable experience for children. Because children readily learn behavior and habits from what they observe, parents should ensure that the habits they learn are the right ones.

Factors in the environment

There is an exposure to new foods when your child begins to attend school. This is where schools have a part to play. It’s a sad fact that schools generally don’t care very much about your child’s nutrition. Schools generally offer mainly junk foods, which teach your children bad eating habits.

As one enters the teen years, he or she becomes a member of certain groups of friends. Your children’s friends will have a huge impact on his or her eating habits. For example, dining in fast food establishments is preferred by lots of groups. Whether the pressure is direct or indirect, children and teenagers feel pressure to eat foods similar to their peers and much of that food is not healthy.

Genetic factors

A person can do nothing about genetic factors. Genetic factors are our biological inheritance from our parents and ancestors.

There are a number of dangers inherent in obesity. They range from mere lethargy to life threatening conditions, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke and heart attack.

Are You Struggling to Lose Weight?

You’re hardly the only one. The war is over before it even starts for many people. The reason? Cravings. It is simply difficult to eat less when you are hungry, as well as refraining from eating some of the foods that you have eaten for as long as you can remember.

We are all aware that we have to get fit and healthy, and the way to do that involves losing some of the weight that has accumulated as we have grown up. But diets can be limiting, and it can be very difficult not to eat favorite foods, such as pizza, chocolate, ice cream, beer, etc.

Harmless appetite suppressants.

The solution for countless dieters has been turning to products that curb hunger.

It’s easy to see why people make this choice, since they normally provide two significant advantages for people who are trying to shed pounds:

1. The craving for food is eliminated by the suppression of your appetite… and

2. They leave you with a sensation of fullness, and as a result you eat less than usual.

This combination has been helpful to those who are trying to consume fewer calories and maintain the self-discipline required to keep the weight off.

Appetite Suppressants That Are Safe – We Want To Provide Assistance.

One thing you should understand is that not all appetite suppressants are the same. Some are great, and some are completely useless. Some are completely harmless, while others are absolutely UNsafe. New products are flooding the market, and it’s our goal to sort the wheat from the chaff when it comes to appetite control products.

We’ll sort through the all assortment and help you choose wisely when it comes to selecting a good and safe appetite suppressant that has shown efficacy over time.

We are all aware that many people struggle to lose weight. When asked, most dieters will say that hunger pangs are the culprits responsible for making it so difficult to adhere to a weight loss plan. Fortunately, you don’t have to rely only on will power to curb your appetite and achieve weight loss. Studies have demonstrated that foods that are high in protein and fiber suppress the appetite, which helps you avoid hunger pangs and enable you to lose weight quickly and effectively.

When you are dieting, natural appetite suppressants are just what you need to keep your appetite in check. However, remember that even though these foods suppress your appetite and help you with weight loss, you should eat other foods as well. The reason is that even though natural appetite suppressants have lots of fiber and/or protein and few calories, they do not provide all the necessary vitamins and minerals required for optimal health. Include healthy fat and carbohydrate items, along with dietary choices that curb appetite and promote weight loss.

Following are five foods that you can consume that will help suppress your appetite and help you shed weight:

Pine nuts

Pine nuts contain more protein than any other seed. When protein-rich foods are consumed, they send signals to hormones that let the brain know that you are full. To curb your appetite and achieve weight loss, include portions of pine nuts eaten intermittently. In addition, pinolenic acid is contained in pine nuts. This is a polyunsaturated fat that, similar to protein, signals hormones that you are full.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a smart dietary choice since it helps curb appetite to promote weight loss. You should always include fiber-rich oatmeal in your diet with any effort at weight loss. Dietary choices that are packed with fiber, like oatmeal, promote a feeling of satiation for long periods. Furthermore, oatmeal helps curb appetite to encourage weight loss since it has a lower glycemic rating. Sugar enters the bloodstream more slowly when foods are consumed that are low on the glycemic index and the result is that you are not as likely to be hungry.

Bananas

Bananas are a good fruit choice since they support your efforts to trim down by curbing hunger. Essential vitamins and minerals as well as appetite-suppressing fiber are found in abundance in bananas. All of these help you shed pounds and remain healthy. This is why you should include bananas in a diet and weight loss regimen to help you achieve your weight loss goal.

Whey Protein

If you are in dire need of appetite suppressants to assist you with weight loss, check out whey proteins. Whey proteins work better than other proteins. Protein is a powerful tool to help curb the appetite, which makes losing weight a struggle. If you are dieting in order to shed pounds, include whey, soy, or reduced-fat milk with your protein drink recipes. You’ll be really impressed at how you curb your appetite and achieve weight loss.

Apples

Apples are very rich in hunger-curbing fiber, which is useful for successful weight loss. Because apples contain reduced fat and calories, they are great for dieters trying to shed pounds.

Apples are also excellent in helping to suppress your appetite and lose weight since they contain natural liquids that make you feel fuller, and that results in weight loss.

You don’t have to feel like you are starving to lose weight. Consuming foods that are high in protein and fiber can help to naturally suppress your appetite, curbing your cravings to help you reach your weight loss goals. Keep in mind that good sources of fiber include fruits and vegetables, and proteins are available in lean meats, fish and poultry. Be sure to include these nourishing foods and plenty of water in any weight loss plan to encourage appetite suppressing and achieve weight loss.

Before your next grocery trip, make sure you know the difference between ‘low calorie’ and ‘reduced calorie’.

What does it mean? If you are trying to eat healthy but you’re confused about how to incorporate it into your grocery shopping, start paying attention to the packages on the food. They are government regulated so you don’t have to worry about what they mean. Print the table below out and take it with you to the grocery store if you feel confused about the labels on your food.
